Put in a redemption for $250 worth of Sweeps Coins on a sweeps app I use, and instead of paying it the system flagged my account for verification. Now everything is frozen until I clear it.
They want a photo ID, a selfie, and a proof of address, which I get, but I am in New Jersey and have used this thing for months without issue. First big redeem and suddenly the wall goes up.
Is this normal that a larger redemption triggers KYC even on an old account? How long did yours take to clear once you sent the documents?

Totally normal. Most of these run light checks on small redeems and then a full KYC review kicks in once you cross a threshold, often somewhere around the $200 to $250 mark.
The account age does not exempt you, the dollar amount is what trips it. Once you submit clean documents it usually clears in 24 to 72 hours.
The stuff that slows it down is a name mismatch or a blurry address doc. Make sure the name on your ID matches the account exactly and the proof of address is recent.

Same pattern on my side. My first redeem over $200 got held for verification even though smaller ones had sailed through for weeks.
I sent the ID and a utility bill, got approved in about a day and a half, and the $230 landed a few hours after that. The trick going forward is to clear KYC fully now so future redemptions skip this step entirely.

Jersey here too, and yeah the hold on the first big one caught me off guard as well. Mine cleared in two days flat once I uploaded everything they asked for.
Keep a screenshot of the pending redemption with the date on it just in case. After this clears your next redeems should be quick since the account is fully verified.
